Fears over next generation remaining alien to mother tongue expressed

TIRUPATI: The fifth day of the literary meet తెలుగు భాషా బ్రహ్మోత్సవాలు (Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavalu) on Monday witnessed linguists asking parents to make their children love their mother tongue, culture and traditions.

Yarlagadda Lakshmiprasad, former parliamentarian and presently a member of Hindi implementation panel, expressed concern that adoration and love for the mother tongue was almost on the brink of collapse among Telugus.

He said that it should be inculcated right from childhood and not injected through such seminars and conferences by literary bodies and voluntary organisations.

Taking the cue, personality development guru Yandamoori Veerendranath said that parents were solely responsible for the emergence or otherwise of children as full-fledged personalities and appealed to them to respond to their immediate needs.

Government blamed

Blaming the government for leaving Telugu high and dry at the school education level in his lecture on ‘Why mother tongue’, Singamaneni Narayana feared that the next generation would remain alien to their own language if the trend continued for two more decades.

He strongly advocated the need to encourage teaching in vernacular languages.

In the session presided over by director of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s Annamacharya Project Medasani Mohan, Vakulabharanam Ramakrishna spoke on the ‘Historical legacy of Telugus’, K. Rammohan Roy on ‘Arudra’s worldly outlook’, J. Krishnaprasad on ‘Glory of Vijayanagara empire’ and Meegada Ramalingaswamy on the greatness of ‘Tirupati Venkatakavulu’.

Felicitated

Actress of yesteryear Anjali Devi, litterateurs -- C.V. Subbanna Sathavadhani and S.T.Gnanananda Kavi -- were felicitated on the occasion.

‘Ashtavadhanam’ by Garikapati Narasimha Rao and ‘Perini Sivathandavam’ by the disciples of Nataraja Ramakrishna evoked thunderous applause from the audience.

అన్నమయ్య కీర్తనలు reflect the greatness of Telugu

TIRUPATI: Telugu is one of the ancient languages in the world. Its richness is amply evident in అన్నమాచార్య సంకీర్తనాలు (Annamacharya Sankeerthanas) written several hundred years ago.

Saint composer Annamayya wrote 32,000 Sankeerthanas in pure Telugu, without using even a single word from other languages, including Sanskrit, said speakers, highlighting the uniqueness of the language at the తెలుగు భాషా బ్రహ్మోత్సవాలు (Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavams) today.

They stressed the need for conserving the treasures of the great language from the influence of Western culture and English language.

Kamisetty Srinivasulu said Annamayya literary works reflect the greatness of Telugu. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is bringing out a Telugu dictionary for some words used in Sankeerthanas.

On the fourth day of the nine-day event, some thought provoking discussions took place.

Talks on ‘Telugu language in writings of poet Tikkana’ by K Venkata Lakshminarasimham, ‘Devotion in Bhagavatham’ by Rallabandi Kavitha Prasad, ‘Richness of language in Prabhandams’ by O Sivashankar Rao, and ‘Stray verses’ (entertaining conversation) and Adroitness’ by K Varaprasad were inspiring.

Palepu Varijarani spoke on ‘Sathakam and its use’ and Medimalli Ravikumar on short poems.

తెలుగు సంస్కృతి వికాస వేదిక (Telugu Samskruthi Vikasa Vedika), which is organising the fete, felicitated TG Kamala Devi, a noted playback singer, and Savitramma, wife of famous singer late Ghantasala, along with renowned writers Samala Sadasiva and Chalasani Prasad.

Vedika president B Karunakar Reddy and others were present. Cultural programmes were presented by noted artistes in the evening.

Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavam hits new publicity trail

A giant LED screen installed outside Mahati Auditorium in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: For the first-ever Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavams being held here, the main roads turned virtual auditoriums thanks to the marvels of modern technology.

The Brahmotsavams is the reincarnation of yesteryears’ Telugu Bhasha Samskruthi Varotsavalu. With people pouring into the venue - Mahati Auditorium, which has a capacity of 2,000, organisers came up with a strategy to adopt modern technology to address the crisis.

They set up a giant LED screen outside the auditorium in addition to two screens. People who could not find a seat or a place to stand inside, can watch the proceedings on the screens outside the auditorium.

One more LED giant screen was set up at the entrance to Gandhi Street near Nalgugukalla Mandapam, close to Sri Govindraja Swamy temple and railway station. Loudspeakers were fixed to electric poles.

Besides, posters and hoardings of noted poets, poetesses, and eminent personalties of Telugu language, literature and history were erected at strategic places and colourful banners were seen anywhere, giving the town a festive look.

Ramanachary said the Tirupati fete should inspire like-minded bodies elsewhere in the State and in the country to work for a cultural and spiritual renaissance. In the technical session which followed, in an hour-long lecture on ‘Veda Dharma’, Vedic exponent, Samavedam Shanmukha Sarma said that Vedic culture was ingrained in the Telugu culture and said that Telugu language acquired its beauty only because Vedic literature and Sanskrit was deeply inter mixed with it. Chairman of the Official Language Commission, A.B.K. Prasad wanted that English teaching must begin simultaneously both in the English and the Telugu medium schoolsHe said it would be a sad day for Telugu when people start getting a feeling that learning Telugu was a waste in their fad for soft skills and communication skills. Tirupati: All set for first-ever Telugu Bhasha festival

TIRUPATI: The stage is set for the first ever తెలుగు భాషా బ్రహ్మోత్సవాలు (Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavams), which will begin in the temple town on Friday

Mahati Auditorium has been decked out for the nine-day event, which will be attended by who is who of Telugu literary world. బాపు బొమ్మల కొలువు (Bapu Bommala Koluvu), an art exhibition by famous artist and film director Bapu, will mark the inauguration of the fete.

తెలుగు తల్లి రథోత్సవం (Telugu Talli Rathotsavam) will be taken out from Sri Krishnadevaraya Circle at Leela Mahal Junction to Mahati Auditorium in the evening. On the second day of the event, a rally highlighting various folk art forms of the State will be organised. Literary sessions will be held from the third day of Mahotsavam.

The topics for discussion include వేదం (Vedam), వేద ధర్మం (Veda Dharmam), ఉపనిషదులు (Upanishads), రామాయణం(Ramayanam) - Samakaleenatha, భరతం(Bharatam) - బాంధవ్యాలు (Bhandavyalu), తిక్కన్న (Tikkana) - తెలుగుదనం (Telugudanam), భాగవతం (Bhagavatham) - భక్తి (Bhakti), అన్నమయ్య (Annamayya) - భాషా చైతన్యం (Bhasha Chaitanyam), ప్రబంధాలు (Prabhandalu) - Bhasha Soushtiyam, చతువులు (Chatuvulu) - చమత్కారాలు (Chamatkaralu), శాతక పద్యాలు (Sathaka Padyalu) - Prayojakata, తెలుగు సాహిత్యం (Telugu Sahityam) - హాస్యం (Hasyam), మాతృభాషా ఎందుకు (Matrubhasha Yenduku) and తెలుగు జాతి (Telugu Jathi) - చారిత్రిక వారసత్వం (Charitrika Varasathvam).

Tirupati: Posters of Poets released

TIRUPATI: Posters of saint poet తాళ్ళపాక అన్నమాచర్య (Tallapaka Annamacharya) and other Telugu poets were released by Saroja Sri Sri at Indira Maidan here on Tuesday as part of a promotional campagin for తెలుగు భాష బ్రహ్మోత్సవములు (Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavams), scheduled to be held from November 22.

Speaking on the occasion, she lauded the efforts of Telugu Samskruti Vikasa Vedika chairman B Karunakar Reddy for promoting Telugu culture, traditions and literature.

Karunakar Reddy said several programmes would be organised during the nine-day event to highlight the greatness of Telugu culture.

Annamacharya descendant Hari Swamy, SVETA Director Bhuman, TUDA Chairman Ch Bhaskar Reddy and others were present on the occasion.

Earlier, students of Chaitanya High School took out a rally highlighting the greatness of Telugu language.

Additional SP B Seshu flagged off the rally. The తెలుగు సంస్కృతి వికాస వేదిక (Telugu Samskruti Vikasa Vedika) will organise a rally in the temple town tomorrow to mark the Children's Day.
