Jandhyala award for Tanikella Bharani
Film artiste to be presented the award at a function to be held on January 13
- Cash prize of Rs. 5,000 to be given to theatre artiste Bharathi
- Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohan Das to be chief guest
- Felicitation function to be preceded by magic show
- Bharani selected for his expertise in enacting `navarasas' with ease
అభిరుచి (Abhiruchi), a city-based organisation formed by friends of the late Jandhyala to promote culture and performing arts, will present the award to Mr. Bharani at a function to be held at వెలిదండ్ల హనుమంథారయ గ్రంధాలయం (Velidandla Hanumantharaya Grandhalayam) Hall on January 13.
The organisation will also present a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 to M. Bharathi, a veteran theatre artiste from the city, on the occasion.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, organisation president M.C. Das said that the organisation was formed in 2000 and began presenting the Jandhyala Memorial Award from 2001.
The award presentation ceremony would be held on January 13 every year, which is the birth anniversary of జంధ్యాల వీర వెంకట దుర్గ శివ సుబ్రహ్మణ్య శాస్త్రీ (Jandhyala Veera Venkata Durga Siva Subrahmanya Sastry), popularly known as Jandhyala.
Award recipients
Abhiruchi presented the award to five film personalities -- Brahmanandam, Suthi Velu, Gundu Hanumantha Rao, Naresh and Sankaramanchi Pardhasarathi (writer) -- in the first year. Film director K. Viswanath, artistes -- Srilakshmi and Annapurna -- and writer Bhamidipati Radhakrishna were the other recipients of the award so far.
"We have selected Mr. Bharani as he proved his mettle in enacting `navarasas' including comedy with ease. He is also a writer, poet, literary critic and theatre artiste," said Mr. Das.
Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University V. Balamohan Das would be the chief guest of the function. VGTM-UDA Chairman Malladi Vishnu, Mitra Agencies chief executive officer Cheruvu Srinivas, proprietor of Sri Durga Enterprises T. Hanumatha Rao, proprietor of Suman Agencies Nandamuri Ram Prasad and D. Anil Prasad of Aditya TVS would also be present.
The felicitation function would be preceded by a magic show by Rasajna, a child magician.
Vice-president and general secretary of Abhiruchi P. Krishnaji and P. Panduranga Rao were present.
