Vizag : Book exhibition on Buddhism

Expo to be on till February 11
  • Some 1,000 titles on display
  • Few books in Telugu too
Visakhapatnam: Has the `Kalachakra,' which was recently held in Amaravathi, caught your attention? Interested in knowing more about the Buddha?

Rush to Ashok Book Centre at Jagadamba junction on Ramnagar Road. An exhibition of books on various aspects of `Buddhism' opened on Wednesday.

It is interesting to know that Buddhism had flourished in Visakhapatnam region between the 3rd century BC and 3rd century AD. Buddhist heritage sites at పావురాలకోండ (Pavuralakonda), తోట్లకొండ (Thotlakonda), బావికొండ (Bhavikonda) and బొజ్జొండ (Bojjanakonda) stand testimony to this fact. During the course of time Buddhism suffered a setback.

Once again, the interest of people in the ancient religion has been revived with the discovery of various heritage sites.

Buoyed by the response to its exhibition held at Vijayawada during the recent `Kalachakra,' the Ashok Book Centre has now started an expo here.

"There are over 1,000 titles on display and the prices range from Rs.50 to Rs.1,000," says its proprietor Ashok Kumar. Some of the titles include `Path to Enlightenment,' `The Essence of Buddhism', `Nirvana', `Buddhist Philosophy' and `Understanding the Dalai Lama'. There are a few titles in Telugu too. The expo, which will be on till February 11, will be open from 9.30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on all days.
