Dalai Lama inspires Telugus

Amaravati (Guntur), Jan. 8: It is four days since the prestigious Kalachakra started and the temple town is crammed with visitors from all over the State. However, the arrangements for the piligrims are woefully inadeqate. Undetttered however by the hardships, the devout and the faithful clamoured to see the charasmatic spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama in person.

“I was influenced by Isis Unveiled, the work of H.P. Blavatsky, who founded the Thosophical Society. It is a magnificent attack on the materialism of religion and science,” said Mr Seshagiri Satyanarayana, a retired engineer from Tadepalligudem, West Godavari. For Himabindu, a student who came along with her mother Sita Mahalakshmi from Battiprolu, it was a weekend outing. “I am amazed to see so much media exposure. I am thrilled to see him in person,” she said.

“Although I have no religious preferences, I was curious to see Dalai Lama” said Bala Anjaneyulu, a druggist from Sattenapalli. “The historians and other Buddhist scholars are arguing that the Kalachakra tradition is not that of Buddha. Buddha is not an icon, his teachings are prone to changes,” said Mr Subrahmanyeswara Rao of Maddipalli, who is a scholar of religious studies. Prasad of Poranki was hurt in the melee but brushed it aside because, he said it was nothing compared to seeing the spiritual leader.
