Writers focus on Telugu in times of globalization

VIJAYAWADA: "Writers should strive to infuse progressive thoughts in the society through their writings and should serve as a beacon of light for the future generations," averred noted Tamil novelist and columnist Sivasankari.

Addressing the inaugural of the Telugu writers' meet organised by the Krishna district writers' forum to mark the golden jubilee of the formation of Andhra Pradesh here at the SVS Kalyana Mantapam on Friday, she said writers should promote broader outlook and address the literary and intellectual needs of all regions.

Presiding over the meeting, Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddhaprasad expressed the hope that the writers' meeting would help the Telugu writers to carry forward the banner of Telugu literature culture through their writing.

Delivering the keynote address, writers' forum general secretary GV Poornachand said the present-day writers were striving hard to safeguard the Telugu language. He stressed the need for using Telugu in all the government offices and wanted the government to accord the status of 'ancient language' to Telugu. Lamenting that the television invasion was eating into the reading habit.

At present, the modern day writer was trying to preserve the culture in times of globalisation.

Later, Sivasankari released 'Sujita,' a book written by N Pujita of Nellore. Gutala Krishnamurthy of Videsandhra publications released తెలుగు పసిడి (Telugu Pasidi) a collection of essays. Noted writer Kalnadhabhatta Veerabhadra Sastry was felicitated on the occasion.

The meet would conclude on Saturday.
