arasaM wants Ancient Language status conferred on Telugu
- The writers' association celebrates 70th anniversary
- Telugu is 3,000 years old and has gained prominence the world over, the association says
VISAKHAPATNAM: The ఏపీ అభ్యుదయ రచయితల సంఘం (AP Abhyudaya Rachayitala Sangham) (Arasam--progressive writers association) during its 70th anniversary celebrations here recently, asked the Central Government to accord ancient language status to Telugu.
Another resolution was passed expressing solidarity with the agitation of Gangavaram fishermen.
Telugu should be accorded the status of ancient language since it was not only 3,000 years old but also gained a lot of prominence the world over. Telugu language and culture were deep rooted in the Indian history.
It was regrettable that Telugu had not been given the ancient language status in spite of some other languages of equal status having been recognised, a resolution moved by the vice-president of Arasam P. Chiranjeevini Kumari said.
