Telugu - American appointed as deputy editor of Wall Street Journal

NEW YORK: Indian-American రాజు నారిశెట్టి ( Raju Narisetti ), the editor of Brussels-based Wall Street Journal Europe, has been appointed as one of the deputy editors of the overall newspaper.

Paul E Steiger, managing editor of the newspaper and also the top editorial person at the daily, wished Narisetti and other newly named deputy editors a success.

''I'm pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Hertzberg as senior deputy managing editor and Alix Freedman, Marcus Brauchli, Edward Felsenthal and Raju Narisetti as deputy managing editors,'' Steiger said in a memo to the staff.

''These appointments ratify the expanded responsibility that all five have already taken on during the past year.''

Indian-American Narisetti, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, continues to serve as the newspaper's Europe editor. He will continue to direct all journal reporting teams and coverage from Europe and the West Asia.

After moving to Brussels from New York in 2002, Narisetti served as managing Editor of the newspaper there. He was later promoted to the editor's post of journal's European edition.

Narisetti, who earned his bachelor's degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad, has a master's degree in journalism from Indiana University. He had worked at the Economic Times, New Delhi, before arriving in the United States.

Raju was born in Hyderabad, in June, 26 1966. He completed his schooling in Hyderabad He graduated in Economics and Sociology from the Nizam College, Hyderabad. Then, he went to the Institute of Rural Management, Anand for his MBA. Then, Raju joined the Times of India School of Journalism, New Delhi, for a Post Graduate diploma in Journalism. After that, he joined the Economic Times and had a brief stint. He is credited to have helped launch the weekend section of the Economic Times.

Later, Raju worked for the Times of India in New Delhi. After that, Raju went to the US for a master’s degree in Journalism from the Indiana University (IU) at Bloomington. While at IU, Raju took several courses in international business. He reckons that these courses helped him in understanding companies as global entities.

He also suggests that business journalists must not be frightened about balance sheets and profit margins. While he was studying in IU, he went to WSJ as an intern. That was in 1991. After completing his course in IU, Raju joined as a business reporter for The Dayton Daily News in Ohio. Raju was with the Dayton Daily for three years. There, he won two Publisher's Awards, the Cox Newspapers' chain's highest honors, for outstanding reporting and writing. In 1994, he joined WSJ as a reporter.

Initially, he was with the Pittsburgh Bureau. There, he covered manufacturing, machine tools and tire industries. He also wrote the Work Week column. Later, he covered Procter & Gamble and other consumer products companies In August 1997, he moved to New York and covered many prominent companies in the US. In February 1999, he moved to the desk. After that, he held many positions in the editorial department at the WSJ.

In April 2002, he was promoted as the Deputy National Editor. He was responsible for planning daily news, editing stories and co-ordination. In December 2002, he was promoted as the managing editor of WSJ Europe edition at Brussels.
