Funny side of Telugu literature explored
GUNTUR: People of the city were treated to some hilarious Telugu literary works at the three day సరస కవిత మహోత్సవం (Sarasa Kavitha Mahoutsavam) that concluded at the Sri Venkateswara Vignana Mandiram here on Sunday.
Eminent literary personalities like, Betavolu Ramabraham and C. Mrinalini regaled the audience with some clean wit and explored humour in various forms in Telugu literature.
Addressing the gathering on the concluding day of the ‘Sarasa Kavitha Mahoutsavam’ , senior journalist Turlapati Kutumba Rao said that a sprinkle of humour and wit in every day’s life would do wonders.
Drawing upon his rich experience of writing for over three decades, he said that a headline of a particular news paper during the tenure of the then Railway Minister Jagjeevan Ram had everyone in splits.
The headline appeared after a major railway accident and read ‘Jagan Jeevan Ram Ram!’ implying the life in world during his tenure was in the hands of God.
Mr. Turlapati Kutumba Rao said that witty one liner and caricatures on personalities like Jawaharlal Nehru often defused the tension.
Scholar Bethavolu Ramabrahmam spoke on ‘Humour in Sathakas’ and said that genuine wit and humour could be found only in Sataka poetry.
Bethavolu Ramabrahmam read out some of the popular poems from Vemana Sathakam.
Andhra Pradesh State Cultural Council Chairman Dharmavarupu Subrahmanyam decried the harmful effects of popular cinema and Television on culture.
He called for intensification of literary movements for preserving the rich cultural heritage.
Commending the efforts of Sahiti Samakhya in organizing such literary shows, he said that State Cultural Council would extend its support to any organization willing to preserve language and culture.
