Important Laws in Telugu soon
Constitution of India, 15 Acts to be translated |
HYDERABAD: Telugu copies of important Acts passed by the Assembly and Parliament will be available in the State shortly.
The Official Languages Commission has embarked upon an ambitious programme to translate into Telugu, not only the Constitution of India but also 15 Acts that have a daily relevance to citizens.
At the same time, the commission is making efforts to delete Section 4 in the Official Languages Act, which prescribes Telugu as the official language but at the same time wants "continuance of English for certain purposes, including Legislature."
The commission will bring out in separate booklets, the Telugu translations of its Part III and Part IV dealing with Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles. Meanwhile, the Official Language Commission, by a resolution at its monthly meeting here on Monday, has asked Dr B. R. Ambedkar Open University to introduce Telugu as optional subject in its B.A course.
Through other resolutions, the commission recommended Urdu also along with Telugu for second language test for filling Government posts and promotions. It sought incentives and rewards for opening schools with Telugu as medium of instruction.
