TN leaders greet people on Ugadi

Chennai, March. 18 (PTI): Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa today greeted the people on the eve of Ugadi, marking the New Year for Telugu and Kannada people.

"May the new year usher in peace, prosperity and mutual affinity among the people and pave the way for the economic growth and development of our nation," the Governor said in his message.

In his message,Karunanidhi said the Telugu people had integrated with Tamil Nadu people and living amicably for several centuries.

Tamil poet Subramania Bharathi had described Telugu as a beautiful language, he said and extended his heartfelt greetings for the Telugu speaking people.

Jayalalithaa said Telugu New Year's Day was not only the beginning of a new year, but also the beginning of summer.

Telugu and Kannada speaking people were living in harmony with Tamil people for several centuries, she said, adding such harmony should prosper in all States.
