Coimbatore : Plans to celebrate a vibrate Ugadi

COIMBATORE: The World Telugu Federation (WTF), Coimbatore Region, and Telugu Samithi, Coimbatore, will celebrate Ugadi here on Monday and Tuesday with a number of programmes.

This was announced by the Vice-Chairman of the federation, ASN Murthy, when speaking to presspersons here on Saturday.

Main programme

He said that the main programme on the evening of Tuesday would start off with the traditional పంచాంగ శ్రావణం (Panchanga Sravanam) to be followed by the గేయధార సాయి కృష్ణ యచేంద్ర (Geyadhaara Sai Krishna Yachendra).

The formal programme during the celebrations would be presided over by V.L. Indira Dutt, President of the federation and also the Chairperson of the Women's Entrepreneur Wing, SAARC.

Chief guest

The chief guest at the celebrations would be Rajshree Pathy, Chairperson and Managing Director of Rajshree Sugars and Chemicals Limited.

The guest of honour would be film producer Aswani Dutt.

A host of other dignitaries were also expected to attend.

The grand finale would be the `Tirupathi Vaibhavam'.

Ballet

This was a dance ballet to be performed by 50 artistes of the Sangeetha Nrithya Kalasala of Thirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam that would depict the history of Tirumala and a variety of `poojas' performed at the temple.

Chapters

The federation that had chapters in all the countries worked for the promotion of Telugu literature and culture.

It also provided economical assistance and training to artistes and artisans who practiced the folk arts.

Fair

To give a boost to such artisans and to give the local people a whiff of the flavour of Andhra Pradesh, the federation had planned a two-day fair as well, as part of the celebrations.

This would be held at the Ramakrishna Kalyana Mandapam.

A number of stalls containing handicrafts, jewellery and food from the State would be displayed.

The exhibition that would be open to the public from Monday would display wares from all parts of Andhra Pradesh.
