Stone laid for Venkateshwara Temple in the US

TIRUPATI: Foundation stone was laid for Sri Venkateswara Temple and Community Hall at Novi, Michigan in the USA at a ceremony organised by the Detroit Telugu Association on Friday last.

Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman B Karunakara Reddy was the chief guest.

Reddy, who reached Michigan, few days ahead of the event, had taken with him, Sankhu, Chakram, few bricks, among others from Tirumala, sanctified in Srivari Sannidhi.

Few years ago Detroit Telugu Association acquired 11 acres prime property in Novi with help of the then Building Committee members B Satyam Babu, G Ramachandra Reddy, Lingam Sai Kumar, Maramreddy Sagar Reddy and Chennamsetty Veerswamy.

Subsequently, several annual fund raising events were held to raise money for the temple.

On the day of the event, TTD Chairman laid the first brick for the temple and performed Bhumi Puja. Several devotees of Lord Venkateswara from Detroit and other regions participated in the event.

Karunakar Reddy in his lively speech, spoke about Hindu religion, Telugu language, culture, history and heritage.

While refuting the allegations that propaganda of other religions was taking place in Tirumala, he responded positively to the request for TTD conducting Srivari Kalayanams in other countries, where devotees of the Lord are in large numbers.

He called on everyone to come forward and donate for building a great temple of the Lord Venkateswara in the Detroit Area.

The community was able to raise approximately $700,000 in a matter of two hours. Sri Katragadda Krishna Prasad pledged an amount equal to Rs 1 crore for the temple.

All those present were excited, as such amount was never raised in any Telugu community in the United States.
