Telugu poetry award for English teacher

VIJAYAWADA : Ch. Satyanarayana, an English teacher at Sri Krishnaveni Talent School, has won the Ranjani-Kundurthi Award for 2005 at a national-level Telugu poetry competition held in Hyderabad recently.

ఉపాధుయుడు ("Upadhyayudu") a poem penned by Mr. Satyanarayana, is adjudged the best in the competition organised by the రంజని-తెలుగు సాహితి సమితి ( Ranjani-Telugu Sahithi Samithi ), which is formed by employees of AG Office, Hyderabad.

He will receive the award at a function to be held in the State capital in December.

Written in the form of an appealing address to the student, the poem runs like a stream of songs sung in praise of the teacher for straining himself to spread knowledge and wisdom.

It has mellifluous lines: "బుక్‌ అనే ఏటి ఒడ్డున, అక్షరాల గవ్వలని ఏరుకొంటు, నీకోసం విఞాన మాలల్ని అల్లుతుంటుంటాడు" ( "Book ane eti odduna, asksharala gavvalani erukontu, neekosam vignana maalalni allutuntadu") [the teacher throngs the shores of books, picking up shells to weave garlands of knowledge for you].

Mr. Satyanarayana says that writing Telugu poetry has been a great fascination for him and he won a national-level competition conducted by the American Telugu Association in 2004.
