SRISAILAM: M. Radhakrishna Sarma of Osmania University on Friday underscored the need for gathering the statistical data of Telugus settled around the globe during different periods as no serious attempt was made to collect reliable data except organising cultural festivals.

Delivering the keynote addresses at a seminar on `Telugu Diaspora Through the Ages' here, he said the first generation of migrants considered their new home a `fairy land' but the successive generations, especially their children faced an identity crisis. They could not cope with the loss of their cultural identity and failure to assimilate completely into the new society.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor of Potti Sriramulu Telugu University Avula Manjulatha inaugurated the two-day seminar.

Timma Reddy of Andhra University said after globalisation barriers had collapsed between nations and people. For Telugus living abroad , Telugu culture was available at their doorstep because of TV.
