Decision on Telugu status soon
HYDERABAD: The Union Government will soon decide on the classical status to Telugu language, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni has said.
Speaking to media persons after inaugurating the Balayogi Paryatak Bhavan, she said, "We have received a representation from the State Government which is also signed by none other than Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy himself".
The Ministry has a special committee on language, attached to Sahitya Akademi which is examining the issue including Telugu language's history and other related aspects. "I am following up on the issue with the committee and a decision in this regard will be announced soon," the Union Minister added.
