Tirupati: Stage set for Thyagaraja fete

TIRUPATI. The 65th annual festival of music and dance being jointly hosted by the TTD and the Thyagaraja Festival Committee, Tirupati, will get underway on July 19.

Artistes, including the upcoming ones, besides stalwarts like violin maestro T.N. Krishnan, flute wizard N. Ramani, vocal singers like T.M. Krishna, Malladi Brothers, Hyderabad Sisters-- drawn from different parts of the country will perform during the festival. According to M. Krishnaswamy and K.V. Ranganathan, working president and secretary of the committee, special features of this year’s festival will be rendition of ‘Thyagaraja Utsava Sampradaya Kritis’ by a noted team of woman artistes.

Yet another highlight will be conferring of సప్తగిరి సంగీత విద్వామణి (Sapthagiri Sangeetha Vidvanmani) title on three leading artistes -- Palghat Raghu (Mridangam), Bombay Sisters (Saroja-Lalitha)-- vocal and A. Kanyakumari (violin).
