Language panel chief to continue
HYDERABAD: The term of A. B. K. Prasad as Chairman of the State Official Languages Commission has been extended by two more years effective from May 4.
He was appointed to the post along with four members for a two-year term on May 5, 2005 which expired on Friday. The necessary order extending his term was issued by the Government on the same day.
Official sources said the order providing for appointment of new members or extending the term of the present incumbents would be issued separately.
One consideration taken into account by the Government for extending his term was that he had initiated the efforts to demand "classical language" status for Telugu. Mr Prasad will submit a report on the activities of the Commission to the Chief Minister on Saturday.
