Malaysia : Kuchipudi duo puts up enchanting show
KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 13:
Two Kuchipudi exponents put up a mesmerising performance at Wisma Tun Sambanthan last night.
The two-hour performance, entitled కూచిపుడి తరంగం (Kuchipudi Tarangam), saw the duo enchant spectators with their lively movements of feet, hands and eyes.
Telegu sisters Kasthoori and Thachayani Ramanaidu, both in their 30s, had learnt the Indian dance, originating from the State of Andhra Pradesh, since they were seven.
They returned home from India last year to spread the gospel of Kuchipudi.
The duo pursued a degree in Kuchipudi dance in India in 1999 when studying Information Technology at University of Madras.
Before that, both had undergone dance training in 1982 at the Temple of Fine Arts under the guidance of Shrimati Radha Gopel Shetty.
The duo were the first two degree holders of Kuchipudi dance in Malaysia.
Both are teaching dance part-time in the Temple of Fine Arts in Brickfields.
Kasthoori, a graphic designer, said the dance is complex and difficult to learn.
“However, throughout the learning process, it has made us more disciplined and able to embrace the more passionate aspects of it,” she said.
